Abstract
Objective To summarize the latest research progress of fish collagen as a new biomedical material, and discuss the feasibility and risk management of this type of material replacing mammalian collagen in clinical medicine. Methods Based on an extensive survey of the latest research progress of fish collagen in the biomedical field, a comprehensive analysis of its development and application status was conducted, and key issues that should be focused on were put forward. Results: Fish collagen has rich sources, low risk of virus transmission, low biological risk, low religious barriers, and high biocompatibility. It is expected to be used as a new source of collagen to partially replace the currently commonly used mammalian-derived collagen products for clinical application. However, my country’s translational medicine research in this field is still in its infancy. Conclusion The application of fish collagen in the field of translational medicine has good clinical feasibility and necessity, and can partially replace mammalian-derived collagen medical products with high biological risks, but a large amount of basic application research is still needed.
