Abstract
In order to regenerate chrome leather scraps, collagen degradation products are extracted from chrome leather scraps using an alkali method and co-polycondensed with melamine to obtain a composite (degraded collagen-melamine compound, CMC). The free formaldehyde content in CMC can be controlled by adding raw materials in batches. The molecular weight of CMC measured by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) is mainly distributed between 15 and 25 kDa. The relative molecular weight is larger than that of the raw material and the free amino groups are reduced. The average particle size of CMC powder was measured by SEM. The diameter is significantly larger than that of collagen degradation products, but it still maintains the original associated particle morphology of collagen degradation products; the hot melt temperature of CMC particles is ¡Ý 120¡ãC. At pH 7~8, the average particle size in the CMC aqueous dispersion is about 125 nm, with a narrow distribution; the isoelectric point of the dispersion measured by a potential analyzer is pH 4~5. The analysis results show the unique properties and potential application prospects of CMC powder.
