Abstract
Objective: To explore the protective effect and mechanism of berberine on nephropathy in rats with diabetic nephropathy (DN). Methods: Streptozotocin (STZ) was used to replicate the DN rat model, and the animals were divided into normal control group, model group, and berberine low, medium, and high-dose treatment groups (50, 100, 200 mg¡¤kg-1¡¤d-1) , Xiaoke Pill treatment group (XKW, 0.8g¡¤kg-1¡¤d-1), fasting blood glucose (FBG), kidney weight/body weight ratio (KW/BW), urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine ( Cr) and urine protein (Upro); immunohistochemistry detected the expression of transforming growth factor ¦Â1 (TGF-¦Â1) and type IV collagen (IV-C) protein in glomerular mesangial cells. Results: After ig administration, berberine could reduce the levels of FBG, KW/BW, BUN, Cr and Upro in rats, and reduce the expression of TGF-¦Â1 and IV-C protein in glomerular mesangial cells. Conclusion: Berberine has a protective effect on renal microcirculation lesions in DN rats, and this effect may be related to its inhibition of TGF-¦Â1 and IV-C protein expression in renal tissue.
