Abstract
Objective To study the anti-osteoporosis mechanism of icariin through the changes of type I procollagen amino terminal peptide (PINP) and type I collagen cross-linked amino terminal peptide (NTx) indicators. Methods Ovariectomy was used to induce osteoporosis model in rats, and different extracts of Epimedium were administered to the rats. Changes in PINP, NTx and other related indicators were detected to evaluate the anti-osteoporosis efficacy of Epimedium. Results Compared with the blank control group, the contents of estradiol (E2) and PINP in the model group were significantly reduced (P<0.01), and the level of NTx was increased (P<0.01); compared with the model group, the levels of icariin were low, medium, and The high-dose group could increase E2 and PINP levels (P<0.05) and reduce NTx content (P<0.05) in castrated rats. Conclusion Icariin has estrogen-like effects and can improve osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats. For further information of this article and research, feel free to contact our team for asssitance.
