Abstract
Objective To investigate the distribution of type I collagen ¦Á2 chain (COL1A2) Pvu¢ò genotype among children in areas with different concentrations of fluoride and iodine in drinking water, and to explore the relationship between COL1A2Pvu¢ò gene polymorphism and dental fluorosis in children. Methods The polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method was used to detect the COL1A2Pvu¢ò genotype of children aged 8 to 12 years in areas with normal fluoride and iodine, simple high fluoride and high fluoride and high iodine areas. Dean’s method to detect dental fluorosis in children. Results The distribution frequencies of children’s COL1A2Pvu¢ò genotype in areas with normal fluoride and iodine in area 3 were PP23.3%, Pp36.7%, and pp40.0% respectively; the distribution frequencies in areas with simple high fluoride were PP9.8%, Pp45.1%, and pp45 respectively. .1%, and the distribution frequencies of high fluoride and high iodine areas were PP13.7%, Pp38.4%, and pp47.9% respectively. There was no statistical significance in the distribution differences among the three areas (¦Ö2=5.191, P>0.05). The prevalence rates of dental fluorosis in children were 0, 52.7%, and 50.7% respectively, and the differences were statistically significant (¦Ö2=49.081, P<0.05); there was no difference in the prevalence of dental fluorosis between simple high-fluoride areas and high-fluoride and high-iodine areas. Statistical significance (¦Ö2=0.060, P>0.05), but the fluorosis index in the high fluoride and high iodine areas was lower than that in the simple high fluoride areas. Conclusion There is no significant relationship between COL1A2Pvu¢ò gene polymorphism and dental fluorosis in the investigated children.
