Experimental Study On Repairing Rabbit Facial Nerve Injury Using Collagen Catheter And Polytetrafluoroethylene Plate

Abstract
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the role of autologous nerve graft, polytetrafluoroethylene plate (e-PTFE) and collagen conduit in repairing facial nerve injury in rabbits. Methods The main trunk of the rabbit facial nerve was separated, cut and isolated by 5 mm, and the nerve ends were connected with autologous nerves, e-PTFE or collagen catheters. The nerve conduction velocity of experimental animals was measured on the 7th day, 1 month, and 3 months after surgery. The animals were sacrificed, the grafts were removed, and the number of myelinated nerve fibers in the specimen section was counted. Results On the 7th day after surgery, almost no nerve growth was observed in the specimens of animals in each group. In the following 3 months, axonal growth was observed in autologous nerves and grafts, and there were significant differences between different time points. There are also significant differences in nerve conduction velocity at different time points. Conclusion e-PTFE and collagen catheters can be used as biocompatible materials to repair peripheral nervous system injuries
