Abstract
The histological structure of the body wall of the smelly dung beetle Coprisochus Motschulsky was observed under a light microscope. Eosin and Malory’s trichrome staining showed the presence of collagen fibers in the body wall, especially in the folds of the abdominal wall and the membrane wing wall. There is an inner cavity in the elytra with skin cells. The epidermis on the back of the elytra sinks to form a pier-like structure to support and strengthen the elytra cavity and reduce weight. There are also internal cavities and skin cells between the dorsal and ventral walls of the membrane wing, which are filled with oil glands (analyzed to be brown adipocyte glands) and their secretions. The muscle bundles of the foot are surrounded by a large number of brown fat cell glands. The presence of brown fat cells provides needed energy to surrounding organs and has a weight-reducing and lubrication effect. The surface of the body wall has a large number of protrusions, bristles, and a large number of ducts of varying thicknesses connected to its lower surface. Together with a large number of oil glands and their secretory functions, these provide a morphological and chemical basis for the viscosity-reducing properties of the body wall. The structure of the inner cavity of the elytra can provide a certain reference for architectural bionics.
