Comparison Of The Early Efficacy Of Medical Ozone Combined With Collagenase And Collagenase Alone In The Treatment Of Lumbar Disc Herniation

Abstract
Objective To study the effect of medical ozone (O 3) on the early efficacy of collagenase in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 108 patients with lumbar disc herniation from 2009 to 2013, and they were divided into the collagenase alone group (Group A) and the O 3 combined collagenase group (Group B). Both groups of patients were punctured through the interlaminar foramen approach, and the needle tip was adjusted into the diseased intervertebral disc herniation. Group A simply injected 1 mL of collagenase solution (containing 600 U of collagenase); Group B first injected 50 mg/LO 3 15 mL, and then inject 1 mL of collagenase solution (containing 600 U) after 15 minutes. The degree of pain and efficacy of patients were compared 3 days, 1 week and 1 month after surgery based on the visual analogue scale (VAS) and the modified MacNab method. Results The VAS score of Group B on 3 days and 1 week after surgery was significantly lower than that of Group A (P<0.05), but there was no statistical significance in the VAS score on 1 month after surgery (P>0.05); Group B had significantly lower VAS scores on 3 days and 1 week after surgery. The efficiencies were 71.2% and 88.5% respectively, which were significantly higher than the 51.7% and 71.4% of group A. However, the effective rate 1 month after surgery was not statistically significant (P>0.05). Conclusion The early efficacy of O 3 combined with collagenase in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation is significantly better than that of collagenase alone
