Abstract
Objective To study the role of activin A (ACT-A) and follistatin (FS) in renal interstitial fibrosis. Methods SD rat renal interstitial fibroblasts were cultured in vitro and divided into group A, group F, and group A+F. ACT-A, FS, and ACT-A+FS were added to the culture medium respectively, and the culture medium was detected by ELISA. The contents of hydroxyproline (HYP) and type IV collagen (IV-C) in the supernatant. Results Within the concentration range of this study, the higher the concentration of ACT-A, the higher the concentration of HYP and IV-C in the culture medium; simply adding FS had no significant effect on the secretion of HYP and IV-C by rat renal interstitial fibroblasts ( P>0.05), but inhibited the effect of ACT-A on promoting the secretion of HYP and IV-C in rat renal interstitial fibroblasts in a dose-dependent manner (P<0.01). Conclusion ACT-A may play an important role in the occurrence and development of renal interstitial damage, and supplementing exogenous FS may provide new ideas for the treatment of renal interstitial fibrosis.
