Abstract
Abstract Objective To observe the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1¦Á in the portal vein of rabbits with schistosomiasis and explore its significance in the activation of smooth muscle cells (SMC). Methods The portal hypertension model was established by infecting rabbits with schistosomiasis cercariae through skin application. Western blot and immunohistochemistry were used to detect the expression levels of HIF1¦Á and type I collagen at 150 days. At the same time, optical microscopy and transmission electron microscopy were used to compare the media thickness and SMC ultrastructure of the portal vein of rabbits in each group. The results were consistent with those of healthy rabbit portal veins. Comparing tissues, the expression of HIF-1¦Á in schistosomiasis rabbits was significantly increased (integrated absorbance was 6.45¡À2.14 and 3.27¡À1.58, respectively, P<0.01), and the content of type I collagen was significantly increased (integrated absorbance was 141.3¡À28.21 and 48.53¡À12.22, respectively. P<0.01). In the model group, portal vein SMC significantly proliferated, transformed into synthetic fibroblasts, and the tunica media thickened (118.29¡À36.52) ¦Ìm. Conclusion HIF-1¦Á increased significantly in the portal vein of rabbits with schistosomiasis, which may promote SMC activation and participate in the portal vein Hypertensive vasculopathy formation For further information of this article and research, feel free to contact our team for asssitance.
