Abstract
Corneal alkali burns are a common type of eye trauma in clinical practice, with a very high blindness rate. Its mechanism involves corneal stromal cells, inflammatory cell infiltration, corneal collagen fiber degradation, various cytokines and their interactions. Accumulating evidence suggests that Tranilast possesses a broad range of pharmacological properties, such as anti-inflammatory, fibrotic reduction, and immunomodulatory effects. This article reviews the new findings of Tranilast in immune and inflammatory diseases and analyzes the application prospects of Tranilast in the treatment of corneal alkali burns. Corneal alkali burn is a common type of ocular trauma with a very high rate of blindness. This review summarizes the new findings of Tranilast in immune and inflammatory diseases and analyzes the perspective application of Tranilast in the treatment of corneal alkali burns.
