Preliminary Study On The Effect Of Green Tea Extract Epigallocatechin Gallate On Collagen Degradation In Acid-Eroded Dentin

Abstract
Objective To observe the effect of green tea extract epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) on collagen degradation in dentin exposed to acid erosion. Methods 64 volunteers with acid erosion were selected and randomly divided into two groups. Individual trays were made, and sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) gel (control group) or CMC gel with EGCG added (test group) was injected into the trays. Volunteers are asked to wear it while sleeping at night and take it off in the morning. The culture fluid was collected 1 day before the test and 1, 2, 3, and 4 weeks after the test, and the mass concentration of type I collagen carboxyl telopeptide (ICTP) was measured using a radioimmunoassay kit. Results The gel type and usage time both affected the mass concentration of ICTP; EGCG could quickly and effectively reduce the expression level of ICTP, and compared with the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion EGCG can effectively reduce the degradation of collagen in demineralized dentin and improve the ability of dentin to resist acid erosion.
