Abstract
Objective To explore the histological distribution characteristics of type ¢ñ, ¢ò, ¢ú collagen and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in condylar cartilage development and the molecular mechanism of condylar endochondral osteogenesis. Methods Mouse embryos aged 14 to 18 days were harvested for immunohistochemical staining of types I, II, and X collagen and ALP antibodies. Results On the 14th day of embryonic life, mesenchymal cells were gathered at the position where the condyle was formed and connected with the periosteum. Type I collagen and ALP were positive in the mesenchymal cells and periosteum. On the 15th day, type X collagen expression was positive in the hypertrophic chondrocytes. The surrounding mesenchymal cells were positive for type ¢ñ and ¢ò collagen, and ALP was positive in both cells; on day 16, type ¢ñ collagen was positive in the perichondrium and fibrous layer mesenchymal cells to the upper layer of hypertrophic chondrocytes. The expression of type II collagen is positive from below the polymorphic cell layer to the sublayer of hypertrophic chondrocytes. Type X collagen is only expressed in hypertrophic chondrocytes. ALP is positive in the perichondrium and hypertrophic chondrocytes, but is negative or weakly positive in the polymorphic cell layer. . Conclusion The formation mechanism of condylar cartilage is different from that of long bones. The early stages of endochondral osteogenesis in type I, II and
